One reason that the backhand is so hard is that it is on the left side and most people do not have a good feel on that side of the body. The first tip is to keep your head and body straight with the ball that is coming at you. The moment that you start to look at the ball a little sideways, you are going to drastically reduce your chances of making a good shot on the ball with the backhand. To practice this tip, i recommend that you take time out of your practice to do nothing but backhand shots. Try to improve your ability to judge the ball on the left side of your body and make sure that you keep both eyes on the ball at all times. This will drastically improve your shots. Tip Two. The next thing...
By "timing" I mean estimation of time to the precise instant when to hit the ball. There is a regulation timing to tennis just as there is in music. It gives rhythm and smoothness to your strokes. It is also your check on your tennis swing. Timing is used on all balls. When you're on the court next time try this: The ball is sent to you over the net. When it bounces on the court, count one. When it has dropped to the level of your waist line, count two. On two, hit the ball. This is the correct tempo and height to use on the great majority of strokes both forehand and backhand. Count out loud at first and make your call a clear, firm command. By slowing down your timing, you let the tennis ball drop...

Yes, it's a simple question, but unfortunately, the answer is fairly complicated. How to hit a backhand is one of the first things that new tennis players ask about. New players realize pretty quickly that the forehand is fairly easy, especially when compared to the backhand. Most new players think that they can just pick up the game by watching other people. But soon they realize that it's not as simple as it looks. When someone asks me how to hit a backhand, this is what I tell them. For the sake of this tutorial, I will just assume that you are a right hander. If you are a left hander, just make the appropriate reversals. I will also assume that you are using the one-handed backhand because some...

Another great thing to get into a habit of doing is taking just a few minutes to jot down notes...

the net hit from the point at the first opportunity given to get the racquet squarely on the ball. All the laws of footwork explained for the drive are theoretically the same in volleying. In practice you seldom have time to change your feet to a set position, so you obviate trouble by throwing the weight on the foot nearest to the ball and pushing it in the shot. Volleys are of two classes: (1) the low volley, made from below the waist; and (2) the high volley, from the waist to the head. In contradistinction to the hitting plane classification are the two styles known as (1) the deep volley and (2) the stop volley. All low volleys are blocked. High volleys may be either blocked or hit. Volleys...

A big serve is a huge weapon in tennis. A powerful and accurate serve can allow you to control play, keep your opponent on the defensive and win a lot of short points. In order to serve well, you need to have reliable mechanics, an effective pre-serve routine and a range of different serves. In addition, top servers know how to disguise their serve, so their opponent can not determine what kind of serve is coming their way. Furthermore, you need to understand the psychology behind serving well. In my view, there are two kinds of psychology related to serving. The internal psychology and the external psychology.
